Hello,
I have the following problems on my 2000:
Randomly, on my manual I am unable to shift the car into reverse after the car has been parked in neutral. The shifter can not be pushed into reverse position. I must put the car into 1st gear and then back into reverse in order for the shifter to actuate reverse gear.
and
Also randomly when the easy seat entry is turned on, the steering wheel will move out instead of retracting in when I turn the car off. The seat is unaffected as it still re-tracks all the way back.
The dealer could not repeat the problems. Has anyone else had similar problems? What were the fixes?
The shifting thing is normal. Even on other manual transmissions.
As for the memory seat, are you using the same fob or changing fobs? Each memory location is keyed to a particular fob. So, if you have the settings different between the memory locations, it may behave differently when you switch fobs.
I agree, it sounds like you may be changing fods. Take one, reprogram it and use it all the time and see if the problem continues. If not, then you have it fixed. My 2000 & 1964 manual shifts act the same way. I don't think you have a problem with the transmission. Hope the fob works for you.
Thanks for the replies.
I never had a manual car or truck lock out as often as the C5.
I will try using one fob over the other to see if it make a difference.

My MN6 used to display the same problem for reverse! Hasn't done that for months now, though! I've got 10K miles so maybe time and wear affects this problem.
I'll bet the FOB answer will take care of the other problem!
On the tranny, with the engine running at idle, and the gearshift in Neutral, try cycling the clutch out/in before putting it in Reverse. I think it has something to do with the gear teeth being positioned exactly on top of each other. Letting the clutch out and then back in while in Neutral will spin the gears. I'm not sure if my explanation is correct, but it used to work for me back in the old days on my '69 Firebird 4-speed.
I've had the erratic memory seat/steering wheel problem for quite a while now. It's been to the dealer twice with the same problem. They haven't been able to duplicate it. My suspicion is that it is either the Seat Control Module or the bus wiring. One thing you can do that may help is resetting the steering wheel to the full in position by pressing the button on the steerng column eight times in a row. Hope that helps.
While in neutral and stopped with engine running and clutch disengaged--the input shaft and output shaft to the transmission are stationary. So if the dogs which couple the gears to the output shaft are not lined up with the gear, the shifter cannot be moved to engage that gear. By letting the clutch out into the friction zone, the dogs rotate and an acceptable alignment will be found in milliseconds allowing the gear to be engaged.
The MN6 thing is not a problem....every borg-warner trans car I've owned has done that. You can (1) drive a foot or so forward in 1st, then shift to reverse, (2) let up on the clutch a little and it will go in, or (3) leave the car in reverse when cutting off.
