Default Help! Need Advice

I put about a 1/2 qt too much oil in my 2001 C5 (don't ask). I don't have the equipment to jack up the car and I really don't want to bring it to a dealer unless absolutely necessary. Do I need to be concerned?

Thanks.

Two issues here,
1) did you get all the oil out of the engine...use the proper procedure, let it drain 15 minutes, back end higher than the front?
if you didnt, and you left 1/2 qt in the motor putting 7 quarts in could be bad news... if you are sure you got all of the oil out.
2) 7 quarts would be ok.
Over filled engines can cause bearing wash.

If you dont have the tools to do the job, how did you drain the oil etc???

The dealer changed the oil before winter storage. The car was on the liftwith the pan under it for quite some time. I've only had the car back on the road for a month. I checked the oil last night and it looked like it was a little low. I put in half a qt. I am now second guessing myself that maybe a read the dipstick wrong (did it in poor lighting) since there's no way I should be down a 1/2 qt already.

Also, I cruised for about a half hour and check the dip stick. No foam.

If you are truly just 1/2 qt overfilled you will be fine (assuming that you are truly 1/2 qt overfilled because everything was completely drained etc. like Evil's getting at).

I overfill for track work anyway and don't drain it out for the 3hr drive home. dont' sweat it is my advice.

You are fine. They say to add another quart for track events. I would not worry about draining any oil.

So you now have 7 quarts? That is fine. I always use 7
