Default what about bilstein shocks?

Everyone is either going to the C5 Z06 shocks or the C6 Z06 shocks. But nobody ever brings up the Bilstein shocks.... Are Bilstein shocks an equivalent upgrade? The shocks that are in my car have had a hard life, and it'd be nice to put some new ones in.

My base coupe now has Z51 springs,Z06 sways and Bilstein sport shocks. They work great and have a lifetime warranty. Can't say the same for the GM shocks. You won't be disappointed.

I put a set on just before my last track day last Saturday. I have a 2002 coupe, had put 2002 Z06 shocks on, but wasn't really happy with them. Put the Bilsteins on and what a difference. Well worth the price.

I am not sure what the specs are on the different shocks that you mentioned.

I personally have a 2001 vette coupe that had the standard suspension and I upgraded it to Z06 Springs, Hotchics Sways, VBP Poly bushings and Bilstein Sport shocks.

I also through on a set of Wilwood brakes all the way around and an elite engineering 3/8" ceramic tunnel plate.

I think the combo works well. I am am not sure what all of the dampening rates are on all the shocks are, but the Bilsteins had a much thicker body than the stock shocks.

A lot of the improvement in handling is related more to the spring pressure than the shock.

Default 04 Z06 Shocks

I never had wheel hop climbing the 1/4 mile side of my gravel driveway until I replaced the Z51 shocks with Z06 shocks. Now the traction control system is always active. I'm not impressed, I wish I'd tried the Bilsteins.

I dunno about Z06 shocks as I never installed them on the car, but I installed bilstein sports and they ride like buttah. 100% better than stock. $75 each at autozone, to me that is not breaking the bank.

Is there just one type of bilstein shock to put on? Or are there different degrees of sportiness?

Sport or Heavy duty is the choice. Sport is better for handling. You can rebuild and revalve Bilsteins.

I replaced my Z51 stock shocks at 45k with Bilstein Sport shocks. No issues and the same ride quality from my daily driver now at 90k.

I have Bilsteins on 3 of my Corvettes and will put them on the '63 next. I have used them for years and believe them to be one of the best values in high performance shocks. No disappointments... can't say that for some of the others I've used over the years.

Just don't go to the C3 forum and suggest them...

Good luck... GUSTO
