Default 1999 C5 Diesel!

I walked around the C5 while it was idling the other day to get the mail and noticed that the exhaust note at idle when standing by the rear of the car sounds more like a diesel truck! I guess that was the first time I had walked around back with the car idling. There's all sorts of rattling coming from in/around the muffler area at idle. This sound cannot be heard from inside the car and it still sounds beautiful from inside the car, at idle or when getting on the throttle. Stand by the back bumper though and it's another story.

Is this "muffler full of rocks" sound normal? My LT1 f-body sure never sounded like that!

Mine sounds the same way. If you have the manual tranny, have someone push the clutch in while its idling. A lot of the noise goes away. That's why I hold the clutch in when I shut off the engine as well...if I don't, it sounds like my POS college car did during its last few weeks of life.
