I took out my center console and put a Z06 shifter in my 97 coupe. It has ~35k miles on it. Driving around without the center console I noticed a very loud double-clanking when the clutch was let out or the car compression slowed. Is this the torque tube going bad, it sure sounded like bad u-joints (I know the TT has rubber couplers).
Assuming the TT is going bad, how expensive/difficult is it to rebuild? And I could not believe how loud the driveline is.
Is it heard in the rear? I had a clunk noise in the rear and thought it sounded like a bad drive shaft sound but it was dry spline syndrome. Ther rear wheel splines get dry and the tiny tolerance in the spline make an amazing amount of clunky noise. Bit of grease and nice and quiet now
One of the guys in the club I'm in had a popping/clanking noise up in the front and it ended up being the bolts on the front part of the TT had worked loose.
Seemed to clank when he first accelerated or when he started to decelerate.
I dont remember him saying anything about a vibration.
Me and a friend of mine has corvettes, and ours have a clicking sound, about like a lifter tapping comming from under the hood, I figured that it was a common problem. Yall having the same sounds?
