Default Low budget battery relocation...

With fustration setting in very quick, almost ready to make the phone call and order a $300 battery relocation kit.... I got a phone call with a simple solution.

Last night I got the first section of the battery relocation done. I made a piece of 3/16" aluminum plate to fit the bottom of the center compartment where the battery box will bolt ontop of. We cut out some square aluminum plate to bolt to the bottom side of the composite compartment to add some strength. I ran 2 - 0 guage wires from the rear compartment along the passenger side frame and up into the battery compartment. We made some brass connectors so the old wiring would bolt to the new wiring and finished it with some heat shrink tubing.

Total cost: ~25.00
- 30' wire
- Grommets
- Connectors
- heat shrink
- wire ties

I ordered a battery box today from Jegs to mount to the aluminum plate in the trunk. Its a sealed box with an external vent tube and will fit the Optima batteries and a smaller battery with an additional mount.

Battery Box: 69.99
- battery box with vent

The only thing I am going to add is a Flaming River battery cut off switch which is on its way and should be here this week. The basics of the battery relocation ran about $100-125 when everything is all said and done.

Nicely done!

Eventually, you're going to have to drive this car.

I've got almost 500 miles on it so far. Motor runs flawless and looks to be moving nicely along with the breakin process.

That box looks exactly like the 'other' 300$+ one.
All except the logo but its a fraction of the cost.
I think I can fiberglass me one for even cheaper.

You definitely can, fiberglass mat and resin is inexpensive. The key is my application has to be IHRA/NHRA approved.

very nice. Good information, thanks for sharing. Some posted pictures if you have time will be great too, but not a big deal.
