Default HELP, Lunati 408 stroker build question

I am building a 408 Lunati Stroker with a FE 6.0 Block, and my engine builder just called and said that the piston clearance was .005 over the deck? Is this normal? He said he would wait untill the AFR 225 get here to do the final assembly, but he said he normally holds the clearance below the deck. The FE 6.0 block has not even been decked yet.

Question is this normal?

Stock pistons are .006-.008" out of the hole. Most assemblies come out anywhere from .002-.010" so that sounds fine to me. The LS1-based engines are all like this, which is different than the old SBC.

Thanks for the answer. The only other question now is do I deck the block and with the AFR 225 cc do I mill those, or with the GX3 would the clearance be to close?

You can deck the block and still mill the heads for more compression, its just a matter of putting the numbers together. You can go to any online CR calculator and put all the info in to see what kind of CR you'll get. You still have the head gasket which is about .040" or more compressed thickness.

As for the GX3 I have no clue on what the clearance would be with the AFR 225s!

If you need help trying to figure the CR let me know.
