Re: What does the Hypertech Power Programmer III do? (Gary2KC5)
Hope he restored the normal programming before he sold it. Also the car model year is matched to the HPIII.
The main thing that it is used for is to set the fans to kick it at a temperature matching the thermostat. I notice that you have a 160. If you didn't get your computer programmed in some other way to allow for that the HPIII could be useful for that.
Re: What does the Hypertech Power Programmer III do? (Gary2KC5)
I doubt that it will work. Also it can only program one car at a time. In order for it to work for the next car, the previous car would have to be restored to stock programming with that HPIII.
There is user manual (.pdf) on the Hypertech Webpage which shows what parameters can be changed. I don't remember the exact URL.
Re: What does the Hypertech Power Programmer III do? (MMarquez)
They're best for A4's to firm up & adjust shift points,,, They do adjust fan temps & also are supposed to change the timing, mixtures, etc for some performance gains, but I found the performance gains to be very little & not really noticable...
I'm pretty sure they will only work for the particular year it was made for, so if his is a 99 I don't believe it will work on a 00.
It definitely has to be properly "uinstalled" from the previous vehicle, since it matches up with the VIN number.

Thanks!!!
everyone has been a tremedous help! :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
Just as a side note: my friend who's neighbor has the HPIII Just got a 01' triple black A4 coupe. His wife won it in Vegas! ;)
Re: What does the Hypertech Power Programmer III do? (Gary2KC5)
IMHO the Hypertech things sucks.
They are supposed to lower temps by turning on the fan sooner, increase timing a touch and raise shift points. I have had problems with their product on another car awhile back and have seen a bunch of people in C4 and C5's having problems with them.
I you just want to lower temps just use a manual fan switch. Costs about $5 to make one and it allows you to turn on the hi speed fan anytime you want.
I would rather use a Powerloader than Hyper if you want the the whole ball of wax.
