I decided to give the 'safety' angle a shot at the local dealership. My car is four months out of warranty (in years, not miles) and this thing just went out (EBTCM - C1214 code from DIC). I did a lot of reading here beforehand to make sure my diagnosis was correct. There are a handful of threads about it. I contacted the Service Manager beforehand to let him know my situation, and he said to bring it down. I told him that all three of the safety systems in my car were inactive at the moment and that I felt unsafe driving it around like that. He told me that if they came to the same diagnosis I did that he would fight my case with GM. I dropped the car off and the next day the Service Advisor called me and said that they had got it covered (replaced for free).
Thanks to rikhek for the advice -- I never even thought about trying to get something covered after the warranty had expired. I guess it just goes to prove that everything is negotiable.
I tend to disagree, this part should never fail, especially at the low mileage of most of the Corvettes. GM has been notorious on under cutting their suppliers forcing them to use lower quality components, and I believe this to be the case with the EBCM. (perhaps not a totally accurate statement, but something that has happened in the past)
Not to mention when I bring people in my car now that these lights are on all the time, the first thing they ask is "whats wrong?" I tell them and again they get the perception that GM builds garbage. How are you suppose to argue that when you are driving their flagship model, with only 12K miles on it, and a $1500 (Can) module busted on it.
Its really sad, and I believe I will have a tough battle with the Canadian division of customer service to get it repaired out of warranty (because as they state "the vehicle you own was registered in the US" (which has no bearing on the service or the problem.
I will update this thread with my progress.

I don't understand why you're attacking my post. All I did was try to help you and others. As far as beating the system, if you get an issue solved outside the warranty period you're beating the system. No big deal. The General, despite their faults need limits. Getting service outside those limits, is in my mind, beating the system. The post is not about inferior parts/products. It's about being HAPPY.
LOL, sorry Rick, that came out totally the wrong way.
I was attacking GM not you at all.
You have been nothing but a help to multiple members regarding this issue.
Please don't take that as a attack at yourself or your post.
I am just saying that people deserved to have this defect repaired, regardless of there warranty being expired.
And your right it is about being happy.
Again sorry you took that post the wrong way, I had no intention in attacking you.

The 98's apparently had a completely different module, and possibly multiple modules for the traction/abs/stability control. Was not able to pull up any info on them.

I did not tell you this but, GM (in the western region) has given service managers the "good will" to extend warranty after the terms originally set. It normally can go about 15,000 miles OR 12 months past the end date. If nothing else GM will almost always split the out of warranty cost to repair/replace EBCM's and BPMV's on our cars. They know that it is a problem and ARE willing to help some. The service manager just has to call tech assist and their area service manager.
