I just bought my first C5, a 2000 Coupe, however I have owned a C3 for 8 years, and have performed major rebuilds and repairs on the C3. After I got the C5 home, I noticed that the hood light did not operate, so I removed the cover, and no light bulb, so I installed a new bulb, but it still does not work. No power to the light contacts.
Any suggestions on where to go next? Do I need to remove the underhood insulation blanket to get to the light connections and ground wire?
I know I need a manual, any suggestions on what to get?
There is a plug next to the passenger side headlight in the engine bay. Make sure the plug is connected. If that doesn't work, check the fuse to make sure it hasn't blown (I can't remember the fuse number, but I'm sure others will chime in). If it ends up you need a new light socket, I have a brand new one you can have for $10 shipped.
Also, check that the plug doesn't have any oxidation on the terminals. I had a bit of trouble with that on mine because the previous owner unplugged it as he didn't want it coming on and the terminals were open to the weather.
On my 2k, the under-the-hood light stays on for about 15 minutes, then automatically goes out so as not to drain the battery. It also has a position sensor somehow built in, so that I can put the hood down, but not latched, then back up and the light will come back on. So, if you've had the hood up for a period of time while working on the light, the computer may have already shut it off. You can also turn the light back on by opening a door.

Thanks for the response, but it's not a 'time out' issue, the light simply does not ever come on. The suggestion to look for the connection by the passenger headlight is a good one and I'll look for that tonight.
Would really appreciate someone giving me the fuse # for this light as well.
This forum is great. I was just going to post today, to say that last night I discovered my map lights did not work as well, and was wondering if the two issues could be related. Now thanks to the forum, I have my answer.
I did check the wire connection by the passenger headlight, last evening, and it was clean as a whistle, however I did give it a little dab of dialectric grease before I re-connected it.
Thanks again to forum members for helping out an old C3 guy learn the new C5 tricks!!
