Default Clutch replacement

How hard a job is a clutch replacement in a C5? Have done other cars. Have not looked up under there because I've never had a reason to ....until now........

Looks like the whole *** end has to come out....man I don't even want to do that on my back.... Needs a rear alignement when it't said and done too

Seriously looks like a lot of parts, but on a lift with an impact..stuff can fly apart quickly (or is it still a overly tough job?).

C5 Kidd - any special tricks that I would need to know?? How long would you expect the "first C5" clutch change to take. (Can do a Neon in a little less than 2 hrs and that's pulling the axles and suspension out of the way )

You can pull the entire torque tube, tranny and differential at the same time. That'll save you a lot of time.

What the don't show you is there is a wiring harness attached to the torque torque tube. The wiring harness goes to all of your speed sensors, tranny, differential and next to your battery.

You just have to be careful not to tilt the motor to far back and hit the fire wall.

If you have acces to a lift that is half that battle. Expect to take a day to do the job and you'll probably need a helper to drop it and re-install it.

I just finished doing this on the ground in my garage and I can send some pics. it took me, my brother and his girlfriend (who are both porsche techs.) 10 hours. just have alot for jackstands and jacks on hand. On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 7-8 it's not easy. If you want the whole process I can explain it. just let me know. but things went smooth and I would do it again.

I'm on the edge (repair myself or not)...teetering either way...getting older and this type work becomes more than you bargain for sometimes. Going to price the cost of repair in the shop. That should help me make up my mind...I just hate giving people money to do things I can do myself.

What's the going rate for a clutch replacement - parts included?

Parts are going to be north of $600. I paid about $400 for the Spec 3, another $130 for the new slave/throwout assembly, and 20-50 for the flywheel to be resurfaced. Installation could be from the $600 mentioned (I wouldn't do it for that...) to $1500 (dealer...)

I'd budget $2K to be safe. If you don't have a lift...
