Default Head and Cam advise needed...

I am looking to do the first serious mod to my 01 LS1. I want to do a head and cam package. I am looking for a lot of low to mid range power and torque and want to maintain a nice idle with good driveability. I was thinking of an LS6 head and cam package, or maybe a little more cam than the stock LS6. Is there a reason to upgrade to higher flowing heads like the AFR's if I'm not going with an agressive cam?

I'm doing a H/C package on my car next month. I decided to go with AFR Heads over LS6 primarily because the AFR's have smaller ports with higher velocities. My reasoning is that the 205 cc heads will perform better in the low and mid range RPM range then the larger ported LS6 Heads. As for the cam, I'm going with a conservative "old man" grind but definately more duration and lift then the stock LS6. If you do a search, you will find enough material on cams to keep you reading for a month Good luck and keep us posted on your results

As we all know moding our vettes is a disease with no known cure. I would go with the best possible flowing heads, just in case you continue modding later. Of course several years down the line there will be better performing products available as well.
