Radio losing presets
I tried to search old threads for this subject with no success. Today my '03 vert blanked out all six presets while I was attempting to change stations. Second time in the past month this has happened. Both times the radio was playing fine until I attempted to change stations. The preset selected would not be my "stored" station but some other frequency. I tried other presets with the same results - all were bogus. I also thought it strange that none of the presets went back to 87.7 as you might expect if it had been a power failure. I reset the stations and now everything is working normal, just like it did after the first time it occurred. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I'll readily admit I often exhibit symptoms of "Old Timer's Disease" alright, but now I think the C5 has caught it from me. No, there was no power failure, everything else in the car continued to function as it should - I was driving as this occurred. Voltmeter always reads 13.9-14.3 volts. Car has 11,900 miles on it and has never had any kind of "hiccup" until these two radio glitches. On the bright side, it as the extened GM factory warranty until 9/24/07 so if it gives me anymore trouble, I'll take it in. But I would like to try to diagnose and fix it myself - male ego you know. Not many replies, so I guess this is not a common occurrence. Thanks for your suggestions guys.
You may have a bad connection on a circuit board somewhere or a wire connector. A slight jarring like a bum or rough road surface just as you hit a button may have led to that. Another possibility would be a failing component like a resistor or something. Did anything else fail in any of the other programmed functions? lock/unlock stetings, seat settings, mirror settings, etc.??
Anyone know where the radio freq's are stored. If you can have separate sets of radio stations stored by the programming function, would this be saved in the PCM?
Given that the warranty is still in force, I would get to the dealer and tell them this has been happening a lot and see if they will install a new radio or whatever component that stores memory values.

Thanks for the suggestions. My first thought was that I had absentmindedly hit the am/fm button and switched the programming mode, but that was not the case. Then I figured it was a loose power connection, but none of the presets went back to 87.7 as one would expect if the power was taken away. And nothing else electronic was affected. If it doesn't re-occur, I'll just credit it to one of those electronic "gremlins" that take up residence in your car occassionally.
I live in a very rural area and therefore only use one set of six fm presets or cd player, so I don't know if the other programming options (fm2/am) were affected or not. I will wait to see if it happens again before I take it to the dealer. As mentioned earlier, I would really like to find and fix it myself. And truthfully speaking, I don't want the dealer's mechanics messing around in the dash. As of this writing, the car doesn't have any rattles or squeaks and I don't want to turn them aloose inside to create any. Thanks again for your suggestions.
If you disconnect your battery the only info lost will be the clock on your radio, the presets should stay so with that in mind it has to be something internal to the radio itself and is probably a bad circuit board inside it.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the brain-scratching and your suggestions. I'll keep an eye on it. If it happens again, I'll get back on here and let you know. I might even break down and take it to the dealer, but I sure hate to turn them loose inside my car. BTW, you ought to visit the C6 General Forum and read the on-going horror story about an owner (user name runutzzzz) and his experience with his dealer and GM District Rep. It will get your attention!
I've done an extensive search and this topic is closest to the problem I am currently experiencing. First, a little background....
Last friday I noticed a reddish fluid leaking from the right front side of my Vette. It sort of looked like transmission fluid, however, I don't have an automatic. After a quick check on this forum, I determined it was coolant (expecting a green fluid, I never would have guessed it was coolant). Since the leak wasn't that bad, I drove the 6 miles to the dealership to find out where the leak was and have it repaired. Turns out the radiator fluid reservoir had a small hole as well as one of the hoses that runs from it. Dealership fixed the problem.
I did not drive the vehicle over the weekend. On Monday morning I went to start her up and the battery was completely dead. Jumped it, however, the engine light was on and some of the other gauges were not reading correctly, so I took her back to the dealership. They ran diagnostics and determined the battery was bad. Got a new one. All appears to be fine (i.e. all the gauges are reading correctly now) except the digital clock in the stock radio will not keep time. The troubling thing is it does not reset to 12:00 (as you would expect it to). Sometimes it'll be 1:30, 2:10, 12:42, etc. This will happen if the car is left sitting for more than an hour or so (it appears to keep time if the vehicle is started before then). Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Is it possible hot radiator fluid damaged something? Please advise.
