I went to the Paradise Chevrolet stealership last weekend and requested to have the column lock removed. The service writer looked at me like I was from another planet. I told him that I have the complete bulletin from GM at home if he wanted to read it. Just a blank stare. He did not even want to check in his computer to find out what outstanding recalls there were on my car. I gave up and left.
Anyone on this forum have the 04006C recall done at Paradise Chevrolet in Temecula California yet? I don't want them to experiment on my car trying to figure out how to remove the steering lock for the first time.
John, from your profile, it looks like you have a MN6 car.
Maybe the dealer was confused becasue on a manual, the column lock is not "removed." It a reprogram and clearance check.
Too tired at 1:00 a.m. to look up the specifics of your VIN, but take a look at the big sticky at the top of this section and read all about it.
On the latest recall some of the manual cars get the column lock removed. Other cars are not recalled but the owner gets a letter stating they get an additional 2years of warranty on the column lock. I got the letter for the warranty. My dealer's service manager told me come in and say I had a problem with it and they will perform the latest recall.

Unbelieveable, simply unbelieveable. Talk about a bunch of stupid-*** morons. I'd never set foot in that place again...
[QUOTE=TEXHAWK0]The recall does not actually remove the column lock actuator. It removes the lockplate and installs a relay harness. The actuator stays in place.
Recall 04006C I had it done and made sure the service manager knew the difference from this and the previous B.S. recalls for the mn6. Find another dealer if you can otherwise get a copy of the new recall and show it to the knuckle-head you first went to. Good luck.

Have you actually received a letter from GM, or were you just going by messages on the forum?
Perhaps not.
Like I said above -- refer to the sticky at the top of this forum. Here's a quote from that thread, which someone posted a while back:

DESCRIPTION:
General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 1997-2004 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles. When you remove the ignition key, the electronic column lock (ECL) system prevents turning of the steering wheel. When the vehicle is started, it unlocks the steering. Two conditions can prevent steering while the vehicle is moving:
1. The vehicle is designed so that if the column fails to unlock when the vehicle is started, the fuel supply will be shut off if the driver tries to move the vehicle. If voltage at the powertrain control module is low or interrupted, however, the fuel shut off may not occur and the vehicle can be accelerated while the steering is locked.
2. During quick cranks, the ECL lock pin may not withdraw fully and, in vehicles where there is abnormally low clearance to the lock plate, there may be contact between the pin and lock plate. This can cause a noise or ratcheting when the steering wheel is turned or, if there is insufficient clearance, the steering wheel cannot be turned.
If one of these conditions occurs, a crash could occur without warning.
Dealers are to remove the column lock plate on U.S. and Canadian vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. After the service correction, the steering column will no longer lock when the key is removed.
On vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, and export vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, dealers are to 1) reprogram the PCM, and 2) verify there is adequate lock plate clearance and, if necessary, replace the lock plate. After the service correction, the steering column will continue to lock when the key is removed.
Refer to the Product Safety Recall Bulletin #04006A for further information.

Yes. I did get a recall notice in the mail. I also read the bulletin. Page 2 states that "Dealers are to remove the column lock plate on U.S. and Canadian vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and U.S. vehicles equipped with a manual transmission."
I also read the "sticky" at the top.
My original question was posted to see if anyone on this forum has used the dealer in Temecula, CA for this recall.
Well, I got the recall done today at Paradise in Temecula. They treated the car carefully. Only problem now is that I get the DIC message, pull key and wait 10-seconds every time I start it up.

Had the exact same thing with my A4.......If they put the plate in , remove the relay and you should be good. Especially if it is the white colored relay, they're bad. My dealer put the plate in, removed the relay and I'm fine.........No more pull key...... That leaves the actuator the only thing that would be the weak link. If it would go bad the fuel will cut. I've got a clb I need to put in sometime which will eliminate the actuator from functioning and that SHOULD take care of all the possible scenarios...........
I just spoke with the dealer. They said they have to wait until Monday to call GM technical support. They don't know why it keeps giving me a message to "pull key and wait 10 seconds".

I will see what they have to say on Monday.
same thing my dealer tech did, gm techs response was to take the relay out, put the wiring back to stock...........with the plate in, at least the wheel can't lock but the actuator does still function as you can hear it.........
I just posted this in the stickied thread regarding column lock-
I had the newest recall performed on my 02' Z06 a few weeks ago after it stranded me in the mall parking lot.
A few minutes ago, my wife went to take it out of the garage, and it has the "SERVICE COLUMN LOCK" message, but the steering is fine, as it should be being the locking mechanism is removed.
I pull fuse 23 and reset it, and I get the "PULL KEY, WAIT 10 SECONDS..." BS, and then when I pull the key, it goes back into "SERVICE COLUMN LOCK" mode.

To the best of my knowledge there have been black colored relays and white ones.........I don't know what color the current ( active recall within the past few months ) ones are........ I do know that the black ones were hit and miss, the white ones were crap from the gitgo........ This whole relay thing is crap and that has been said about a kazillion times on here.........

Thats just the beginning of your problems. Installed my Thunder racing CLB in last week in 30min.... no codes, no locking column...what a relief!
