Default Surge Tank Cap PSI

I got a new cap from dealer and it doesn't seem to fit the same as the original. It also has "Engine Coolant 18 PSI Presure on it" while the original has "15 PSI" on it.

The part number GM# 25713160 appears correct. Did they change the pressure or maybe is the wrong cap in the box?

From what I've seen myself, the 18 pounder is the new replacement version for the 15.
I'm curious about what you mean when you say "it doesn't seem to fit the same as the original". It should just screw on like the old one with no problems.

It doesn't seem to go down as far as the original. Maybe it's going down far enough to seal. I guess I'll try it and see if it is under pressure after running the car.

I replaced mine a few months ago and it's working fine since. Seems like I remember looking the new one over pretty closely and noticed it is manufactured by a different vendor for GM than the original.

Just replaced mine last week. The new one looks slightly different and is about 1/8" taller but screws down the same. BTW, the new one is made in China!

The original one quit working!
Seriously, one day I noticed the lower radiator hose was collapsed. The old cap wasn't allowing air in. Also, I was wrong - my new cap was from India, not China.

Does the taller cap cause a clearance problem with the hood?
I still wonder why they went to 18 psi instead of 15.

No clearance problem- I don't see any compressing of the hood insulation over the cap area. Don't know why the increase in pressure- it raises the boiling point of water up about 5 degrees.
