Default Cam Time...Again

With TPIS headers and Bassanni x-pipe what do you guys recommend? I want more power (w/o doing the heads). I would like to have a bit of a "lope" but not to the point that the car will not idle good in traffic. (I love the rough "choppy" sound). I especially would like to see more power in the 3000-4000 rpm range. (Seems like the LS1 has a lot of power in the upper rpm range but could use some help below 5000 rpm.)

I don't understand all of the different numbers on cams. Would one of you shed some light on this fro me (and others)?

Thanks!!!!!

ps...6 spd car...don't care about emissions.

there are several ways to go
I would not go bigger than a 222 duration cam (assuming you are 6 speed)
single pattern cams will idle a little better than dual patteren cams and with headers will make more power Natually aspirated.
We sell several on our corvette forum online store.
We have had good luck with several different grinds. The rage right now is the comp 222/222 grind It is a cam we picked out for a customer who liked it so much he gave the specs out to everyone (same cam now sold by MTI as one theres )
you will also need springs and pushrods and a crank bolt.
We prefer to do the heads also as we like to machine for dual valve springs because of the problems some people have had with the single springs
Brent
a slightly milder cam is the 218 comp custom grind it will make within 10 RWHP of the 222 and will idle better.

Vette-crazy,
We just published an article written by our tech guy on cams. It should give you a better understanding on cams, although you could easily write a couple hundred pages on cams... You can see it under the "Tech" section of our web site. Check it out and let me know if it helps.

If you want the rumpity-rump idle, go with a cam ground with a 112* lobe seperation somewhere in the low 220's in duration. All of our cams are custom ground for us with billet cores, but here is a popular one that makes a lot of "pop".
Seat Timing Duration @.500 Cam Lift 1.7 RR’s
SDM2 int. 274 222 .318 .540
SDM2 Exh. 274 222 .318 .540
As stated above, I would grind it with a 112* lobe sep, which should give it more power a little lower and a little more lumpy of an idle!

I hope my columns format correctly!
Let me know if there is anything that I can help you with,

Thanks guys! It looks like the 222/222 with .560 lift and 112 lsa is going to be the winner. I think this is what some call the "hammer" (or close, maybe it was 224 instead of 222). At any rate, it looks like this cam will make plenty of power. And that is the name of the game, right?

Here is one of the best scources of info on cams that I have seen in survey form. The LS1 guys come up with some great ideas. http://208.238.17.66/ls1forum/Forum17/HTML/001057.html " TARGET="_blank"> http://208.238.17.66/ls1forum/Forum17/HTML/001057.html </a>

Think I am going with the comp 218 for better idle....it makes within 10rwhp of the hammer.
