Default Need Cam help....???

If you were deciding between these two cams....(216/220 or 218/224) which would you take. And why? Sounds like a question for Miss America. Which will idle best? Which will perform best?

I assume that you are not porting your heads at this time? It would be a very good idea to do that with the cam.
There really is not enough information to be able to tell which cam is better, more power, better idle. Are they from the same mfg? Same lobe series? What is the LSA? Seat timing?
To give you the basics of cam tech, you might want to read our recently published article on camshafts. You can find this at http://www.speeddemonmotorsports.com under the "Tech" section of the site.

Neither of these cams seem to agresive and with the limited info, they both look like they will do pretty well in a stock headed combo. If you want it to idle better, open up the LSA to either 114* or 116*. We have make HUGE power on a 116* LSA with out #2 cam which has durations of 222/222, right in the middle of your larger cam. We have a C5 that dynoed 427 RWHP with this cam and I can hardly tell that there is a cam in the car!

Back to the point, both of these cams will probably work pretty well, but could use some head work to really make the car "snap".
Good Luck,

Not to take anything away from the original question but what part of the cam produces the "lopey" sound.
Is it the duration or the lift?

It is actually overlap that causes the lope at idle. Hence, when you close the LSA, you get more lope. Check out my site under "Tech" for a good quick read on Cams if you are interested.

I talked with a tuner on this and he said the 218 will lope slightly more than the 216 as well as make a little more peak power, but it will give up a little low end torque. This is based on both being 114LSA's. With an A4 I would use the 216 with a 3.15/3000 stall and the 218 with a 3.42/3500. Not a huge difference and both drive well.

Sorry about the incomplete info I provided. You can tell I don't know enough about cams to ask the right question. Here are the details I need help with...
If I do an install with Norris motor sports those are the two options on cams ...here are the specs...

NM/CNC Stage II Heads, 2.02"in, 1.57"ex, performance springs, titanium retainers
Comp Cams camshaft, choice of grind (216/220 or 218/224) 114LSA
NM Custom Length Moly Pushrods
LS6/2001 Intake and coolant pipes/plugs
NGK TR55 Spark Plugs
Yank ST3500 stall converter
I have 3:42 gears

Question is what cam to go with if I want a good idle and decent torque? Also, would you do the under drive pullies for an extra $269? Are there issues with the pullies such as sufficient charging power with alt and/or AC?

Duke. This is a very hard question to answer without knowing head flow numbers for all lifts, runner volumes, etc. Comp Cams has a pretty good lobe profile on their LS1 stuff. The lift of the 216/220 cam is .525/.532 and the shelf grind is with a 114* LSA. If you want an even smoother idle, Comp Cams will grind this cam on a 116* LSA for a few extra dollars. What we have seen lately is that the LS1's like the LSA pretty big and we have a few guys running around on 116* LSA making high 420's RWHP and idle near stock!!!

I am not sure of the lift of the other cam you mentioned, but I would lean towards it on a head and cam car. You are not going to have to worry that much about the low end once you put that Yank 3500 in there...especially with 3.42 gears.
Go with the bigger cam and don't look back!
