really, i was not aware of that. SO in that case, is there any benefit to upgrade to c6 calipers, or should i just power coat my c5 calipers, and put the c6 rotors on my car?
From the GM Engineer that works on the program, I goto HPDE's with him.
Its also documented on alot of the GTO websites since the GTO used the C6 caliper before the C6.
I would not upgrade actually. They stiffened it up to fix the tapering problem with the caliper but when swapping out track pads on a buddy's 06 GTO even after 8k moderate miles the pads were still tapered.
The Z06 caliper is far superior, its the pad that is the problem.

if you want c6 z51 rotors you need the mounting brackets from the c6 z51 calipers.
there is a member that did the C6Z swap last fall, and lately a few more; the C6Z calipers bolt directly to the knuckle, the orig. calipers AND brackets are not used from the c5

You are correct...the only thing that needs to be modified is the brake lines.

If they reduced caliper flex to zero they wouldn't cure the major cause of tapering on the C5/C6 caliper. Most taper and the cause of the long pedal when pushing the brakes hard occurrs from one end of the pads to the other. The inboard pad will be thinner at the top of the caliper (viewed vertically on the axle) and the outboard pad will be thinner at the bottom. This happens when you hit the brakes and the caliper twists just a bit on its mounting pins as it resists the rotation of the rotor. This causes uneven pad wear because the caliper is now positioned diagonally to the rotor. Once you lift off the brake the caliper rotates back to its normal position and the pads/pistons are knocked back so there is increased piston travel required the next time the brakes are applied.
Caliper flex causes a taper that appears across the pads from the inside (thicker toward the hub) to the outside (thinner toward the tire). This taper isn't good but doesn't cause long travel on the brake pedal (some people think this is fade or boiled fluid which it isn't).
I stuck C6 Z06 brakes on my C5 and couldn't disagree with you more. I am wondering on what facts you base that statement on?
Do a forum search, everyone I saw that did the swap said about the same on the street and worse on the track. I would like to try a set myself, but backed out when I heard that.

I can't speak for the track, but I did the switch and am quite impressed the C6 Z06 brakes on the street. You can believe that if you want to, but I'm not buying the that some people have said which was the same as saying that GM put worse brakes on the C6 Z06 than what is on a stock C5.
I think they were priced very well, have been quite happy with their performance, like the way they look and would do it again.
For the track the pads aren't upto the task and right now it costs you $400 for a new set of pads, even the new Carbotechs that are supposed to be coming out for the track.
At $400 a pop for street/track pads that is what makes it a "bad" setup.
I'd be all over this myself if there was a decent track pad out there at a reasonable price.
Anyone know if the Z06 has the same sized MS as the C6?
