I've done several clutches (one F-body), but I've never installed a clutch assembly in a C5. Does anyone have a write-up I could take a look at before attempting this?
I looked into it but with out a lift there was no way I was going to tackle it. mechanic did it for less than 400 labor and for that it is money well spent.
I have a lift, but this install bothers me (for some reason).
I'll look into having it done... that'd be MUCH easier.
It's all nuts and bolts, not hard at all just takes time, with a lift its alot easier. Don't let the write up bother you once you get into it you would be suprised how easy it is.
It really is not that bad of a job if you have a lift.
The most important part is to put a brace behind the motor so that you don't tilt it down to far and hit the firewall.
Getting it out should not be that bad. Lining it up when you put back in will be the tough part. Would help to have two people when you drop and re-install.
I wish I had a lift, cause I would do it myself. Next house is getting a big garage out back with lift.
Did my clutch job on Rino Ramps & jack stands out on the driveway, no big deal, especially if you've wrenched on cars before. Gave myself a week to do it, (Thanksgiving Holiday shutdown) no rush no worries.
Used Dope's procedure, it's right on, Thanks Dope.
Only thing I cannot stress enough is GET A GOOD pilot bearing puller.
I had never done a C5 clutch before and followed Dope's instructions. The areas that seemed to be most difficult for me was disconnecting the slave hydraulic line, pilot bearing removal and getting the torque tube bolted back up to the bell housing after the clutch replacement. It would have gone much easier with some help to line things up. But I got it done along with a new master slave, DTE built diff and the strut brace. Wasn't really all that bad.
Cheers,
John
I have done several clutch jobs in a C5. it is not difficult just time consuming. Be sure to get a good pilot bearing puller. Without the right tools that is a real pain. PM if you have any specific questions.

Glad you found it useful
Rickky - you really want a tool to disconnect the "quick-disconnect" (god what a lie) line from the master to the slave. It's outlined in the guide.

Its a nice house, but its not mine.
Pictures of my vette were taken by somebody else at the location.
This site has an incredible amount of pictures, but no instructions. There are separate links for drivetrain removal and clutch replacement at the bottom of the page.
