I can't seem to find any literature describing which fuel injector cleaner method is better or are they equal but just different methods?
A. The OTC method where you fill a canister with cleaner fluid, disable the fuel pump and use compressed air through a regulator and insert into the fuel rail test port or:
B. The 3m injector cleaner product which is a pressurized can of injector cleaner which is connected to a regulator assembly and inserted into the fuel rail test port.
In both of these methods, the fuel pump is disabled and the engine is run using the cleaner fluid.

That "cleaner" breaks the crud loose, and attempts to push it on thru the filter baskets in each injector.
It will disolve the varnish, on the lower components,[below the baskets] but the dirt is still in the baskets.
The correct way, is to remove them, have them flow tested, cleaned, wear items replaced, and re tested.
The method I used to clean the fuel injecotrs on my DD Honda was to purchase an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner for $10-$15 and I filled it with some all purpose purple detergent from Autozone. I then put the injectors in one at a time and left them in there for a few minutes. It's pretty cool to watch because you can actually see a little black stream of gunk come out. Never had any trouble with them and the car runs much smoother now. That was probably 15k miles ago.

Ultrasonic cleaning is a part of the process I use.
However, the injector must be pulsed when doing this. When the inj is pulsed, the dirt thats in the lower end, is reverse flushed, back out, the way it came in. There are various pulse rates used, depending on the injector type.
If the filter basket is not removed, prior to cleaning, any dirt below the basket will not be back flushed.
BTW, it's a "c note" to do a set of 8, and 1-2 days to turn around.
