I need to spot weld a part of the exhaust to get the right position when its still on the vehicle. I will disconnect the battery and my question is if there is a possible chance to damaging the computers when welding? Anyone with experience of welding on C5?
As you can see below I have done quite a bit of welding on a C5. I have had no problems welding on a C5. I have never unhooked the battery or any electronics. The main thing when welding is BE SURE your ground is attached to what your welding. Don't ground to the frame and weld on the exhaust. If your welding the exhaust be sure your grounded to the exhaust. A lot of times people will clamp on the ground and start welding all over the car on different parts which can cause problems. Also, the closer your ground is to where your welding the better.
But another word of caution that I learned the hard way! Be sure you only have 1 thing AC powered attached to the car at a time! Example, if your welding don't have something like a battery charger hooked up. If your soldering don't have a battery charger hooked up. You can create loops through your home electrical system and the car's electrical system. Trust me on this one, I know!
It feels a little more confident knowing that somebody have done it before. You hate yourselve if you didnt ask and blow the computers or something.
I still will disconnect the battery for safety but will clamp as close as possible. Im just gonna spot weld for the right position and then take the exhaust out to finish it all outside of the car.
Many thanks again

The muffler guy that installed my exhaust system told me he always unhooks the battery when he does a computor car. He said he would rather be safe than sorry.
