Well, at 3000 miles, my low oil level warning came up on the DIC. First thing, checked the dipstick. Anyone know how to read this thing? For now, I will run out and throw a quart of mobil 1 in.
Re: Low Oil Level, Dipstick Useless, Need Help Please (Speedway)
Try the owners manual.Park the car on level pavement.I check mine when the engine is hot,I allow the oil to settle for 2 or 3 minutes I remove the dipstick and carefully wipe it off with a clean paper towel then I insert it all the way.At this point I slowly remove the dipstick, being very careful not to drip any oil.If it is not up to the full mark I will add one fourth of a quart of oil, again allowing a couple of minutes for the oil to settle before rechecking.Do this until the oil level reaches the upper mark.Do not overfill.Drive the car then recheck.I check my oil every 250 miles .You should too!

BE WARNED: Once the DIC shows "LOW OIL LEVEL", you must let the engine cool down completely after adding oil, otherwise that message will keep popping up every few minutes. Don't ask me why it does this...it just does...drove me crazy last year in BG. Ideally, you should let the engine cool overnight.

Speedway, Try emory cloth to rough up the area between the two holes. IT does make it easier to read. I check my oil AFTER the car sits over night. That is how much oil is in the crankcase. Oil seems to take a long time to return down to the crankcase on the LS1.
