Default Gas leak?!?

So tonight i walk into my garage after parking my c5 a couple of hours prior and as soon as I open the door I smell what seems to be gasoline. After about 30 minutes of trying to figure out where in my garage a gas leak could occurr i went ahead and backed out all the cars only to find a puddle of gas under the right side of my C5.

What could have caused this problem? Where are the tanks located? Where should I look to find the source of the leak? Is it even safe to drive it to the dealership and have them take a look at it?

Thanks,

patrick

I have had the same problem with my 04 for a while. I found it did not leak if I kept it under 1/2 a tank. I believe it's the crossover pipe between the left and right tanks that sits over the transaxle. BUT after reading a post last week, it might be more serious. The guy had taken it to the dealer to find it was a split tank and it has happened to a few lately, the dealer replied. Now I'm a bit worried considering the tanks alone are $700. Maybe this might be a recall after all.

By the way what year is yours as I believe this is happening from 02 on.

My car is a 98'. I should know something shortly as to what exactly is wrong. Dropped it off at the dealership this morning and will keep you posted.

Please keep us posted. If it would have been on the left side, I would have certainly said to check the PITA rubber seal on the side of the tank around the fuel pump. I had to use RTV sealant to get mine to finally stop leaking. However, if you haven't removed your pump lately, that shouldn't be it anyway. I know you said it was on the right side, so I'm just babbling. Please keep us posted.

Update:

Turned out the leak was coming from the fuel filter. Dealership stated the clips from the filter broke and began leaking. Gas was leaking on the exhaust....pretty hazardous stuff. By the way, the leak was coming from the left rear side. What happened was that I had the car reversed in the garage and then moved it later. The reason why I thought it was leaking from the right side.

Car is fixed on ready to go.
