I just bought my first Vette, a 02 mag red II. It has some very nice looking slotted and drilled rotors on it and I know that they are zinc washed. I have no idea what brand they are. All I know is that the previous owner ordered them form Ecklers and they have the stock calipers and stock size pads.
My question is this. When the time comes can these type rotors be turned like regular rotors and if so will that not take off the zinc coating? Or do you have to replace the rotors entirely?
I have never had rotors like this and want to make sure I do the right things to keep them nice and in good working order.
90 % of the brake shops out there have never seen drilled and slotted rotors... drilled and slotted rotors can easily be turned down with the right tool and someone who is knowledgable with this process, they can be cut or they can be ground... as far as the zinc coating you have no zinc coating where the pads meet the rotor surface... the pads were that surface clean in about 200 miles... that surface is refered too as the fire path.. it is unprotected and when wet it will rust... a few applications of the brakes and the fire path rust is gone.. just like the zinc that was formerly there...
OK ???????
When you need new rotors we will help you out...well some of us will and the others will tell you what they think is good....
