Car won't start
2001 A4. Got in it this morning and turned the key and all I got were flashing instrument panel lights. Figured dead battery, so I would deal with it when I got home. Took the battery back and got a free replacement. Installed it and still not starting. Checked the battery and it's fine. Checked all ignition and starter fuses - all okay. Disconnected battery for 5 minutes and still nothing. Turn the key and nothing but flashing lights. Any help would be appreciated.

No Start
Try your other key, and look at the resistor in the ignition key to see if it's intact. Sounds like the VATS is hosed up. Also, move the shifter back and forth through the gears. Perhaps the neutral switch is hanging up. Double check the battery cable connectors. Take them off the battery and SCRAPE them. Sometimes a translucent film develops on them, and it's hard to see. Even though the new battery reads good voltage, sometimes it needs to be charged up to handle the load placed on it for starting.

Don, thanks for the advice. The other key is long gone. I should have already gotten a replacement, but just haven't done it. Will try the other options and will probably jack it up tomorrow evening and check the grounds and starter cables. Any idea on how to get a key without having them copy mine?
