okay i just bought a trans cooler for my car. I thought i knew how i was going to install it. Placing it in front of the radiator and running the lines into the radiator.. I was reading on the box and it says for transmission oil, do i want to run tranny fluid through this?
Someone just please clerify how i am going to be setting this process up. The one thing ive learned in the past, measure twice, cut once. And with this the same rule should apply.

ive made 1 too many mistakes without checking to makes sure im right with my past cars, i dont want the f-up the vette.
Hey, I can definitely understand that. What brand tranny cooler did you get? I've always had good success with the ones from B&M. You'll be happy in the security the tranny cooler provides. Glad to see you're using your head and upgrading the safety/maintenance side of the vehicle instead of just adding more horsepower like most other guys without regards to it's affect on your vehicle. Let me know if you need any suggestions on the install.....
i got this hayden 'high performance tranny oil cooler" from the local auto store where i got 20% off.. its a hayden 514. 7.5 height, 15.5 length, and 3/4 thickness. the core is 12 inches.
Yes i would love some suggestions on where to locate it, other than the front. also how i should set it up would be very helpful as well. running it thru the rad. or threw the tranny fluid..
yeah i had it down at a track and it was running way to hot for me.. decieded i dont want to replace the trans later so i better do this now..

A good place would be in front of the a/c heat exchange in front of the radiator. It's nice and tucked out of the way and doesn't interfere with ground clearance.
I've always run mine in-line with the radiator. A lot of tranny coolers have a little thermostat that prevents flow through it's vanes until the tranny fluid reaches a certain temp. Not sure if yours is set up that way or not.
If you run the line coming out of the radiator into the tranny cooler you can then set up the output line going from the tranny cooler back to the transmission itself. This allows the cooler to function IN ADDITION to the factory cooler in the bottom of the radiator instead of replacing it. The greater volume alone will add to the cooling functions. A deeper tranny pan which contains more fluid works in the same way and is also a good mod.
Another method is to run the tranny cooler as a stand-alone unit. This removes the radiator from the equation and may have some effect on increasing the cooling capabilities of the stock radiator on your coolant as it isn't getting heat soaked from the lower half by the hot tranny fluids. I haven't done any back-to-back testing so that's really only conjecture. You may want to look into the capacity of the stock cooler versus the aftermarket cooler to determine if this is ideal for you. Another safe bet is to talk to some local shops that work on C5's and get their opinions on mounting locations and whether to run it in place of the factory cooler or inline. Good luck...

Now I'm confused... You do know that Tranny fluid passes thru the radiator as well as coolant for your engine?
Ok, Engine coolant circulates thru the radiator and then on the right side of the radiator transmission fluid enters thru the bottom fitting and exits thru the top, the transmission fluid does circulate inside the radiator but in a seperate internal tank that cools the fluid.

Exactly....hence the need to run the output line from the radiator to the input tube of the tranny cooler and then the tranny cooler ouput back to the transmission itself. This allows you to utilize the stock radiator's transmission cooling functions and then "after-cool" the fluid as it passes through the aftermarket cooler on it's way back to the tranny.
