after manually unlocking the columnlock for about a year of column locks, i now have a colum lock message without the column being locked...car turns on but shuts off at any speed...seems the lock didn't activate the last time i turned the car off so now its unlocked but throwing the message..i had recently noticed that the column motor didnt sound like it had much power when engaging, so 2day i had my battery checked and it was ok...now i would have to get it to lock for it to work...i'm getting the clb asap , i just hope it works in my case...

One of the recalls added some software patch that disables the fuel to the engine. I had this happen as well. I learned about it here on the Forum somewhere. Good Luck.
Have you owned the car since new? Mine did the same thing at a Nascar race in Homestead. Once I let it sit for a few minutes it ran just fine. Is yours still doing this?
yes, i purchased it in 5/99...i have been stranded at home since yesterday...i missed my poker game, i havent eaten since friday, and it doesn't look good.. today i gave up...
When you say the car shuts off "at any speed", do mean it will not stay running even at idle with the car not moving, or it cuts off when you try to drive it?
You may not have a new column lock problem.
It may just be that your actuator is stuck in the unlocked position, and the BCM cannot determine its position and is cutting off the fuel.
If the problem is the signal back to the BCM, the CLB or GM Harness K should fix the problem. You need a relay in the circuit to send the correct signal back to the BCM so the fuel is not cut off.
it cuts off when i move the car. it runs in idle...
Since it cuts off when you try to drive it, it sounds like it is a column lock actuator problem, which the CLB or Harness K should fix.
I would be concerned that the actuator is not fully retracted and at some point might cause problems with the steering wheel locking.
I would suggest you remove the lockplate and install the CLB or Harness K.
I removed the lockplate and installed a GM Harness K kit on my 04 Z06 a couple of years ago, but I got one of the old design relays, and the newer relays seem to still have problems with premature failure.
just installed the clb per directions and the car started with no codes and drove normally again...so i guess u can have a dead cl motor and the clb still corrects it...my only concern is if this thing locks up while im driving since the motor is faulty...should i still do the recall?

what could happen if the motor's not fully retracted? would it lock up on a curve?
I have read stories where the actuator pin vibrated up and locked the column while driving, even with it disconnected.
I would still suggest you have the recall done that removes the lockplate. The dealer will probably want to install the GM harness, but you can always just take it out and re-install the CLB when you get home. Then you know there is no way for the column lock actuator to cause the column to lock.
