Default header install = bad launch

I recently installed some TSP LT's and an Ls6 intake.. Put down 340rwhp.. didnt' get to tuned as we had some tech. issues.. the track was open last night.. no time slips just "street racing".... I raced maybe about 15x's last night... ya i made a few passes... ... but i'm really disappointed.. my launches blew.... every time my car bogged down like my traction control was on.. heck 2x's i killed it put clutch in a little and gave it some gas and away we went... after i hit 2nd it was smooth sailing but damn... i'm already at a loss to everyone...

i know something has to be wrong.. I've raced my buddies SRT-8 before and the first time I beat him by half a car... this time with LT's and an intake (23rwhp more) i only beat him by a nose... he hasn't modded since and i'm pretty pissed...

only thing I can come up with is i'm running really rich... i guess i should note I did replace all my wires with autolites if that makes a difference..

what do you think is wrong?

thanks in advance..

If you were bogging on the launch, I don't think you were leaving hard enough. You might want to up the RPM's a few hundred and see what happens.

As 16again said, up the RPMs a bit. I'm assuming you're no longer running cats, because you said TSP. I have, essentially, the same setup, and I've lost quite a bit of low end torque due to having no cats. You'll notice the higher end as having all the power now.

Just gotta get her started higher into the powerband.

so maybe the loss of the lowend tq is a problem when dropping my clutch and launching... not enough tq at 850rpm to turn drivetrain?

I felt a loss of low end torque when I ditched hte cats and put on TSP LTs with connection pipes. Since then I have had the exhaust rebuilt from the connection pipes back with 2.5 inch X pipe. Also the rear of the connection pipes were leaking and my car was running rich.

After everything was welded up and the x pipe was installed I immediatly noticed my low end torque had definatly come back. Now the car runs awesome!

You might even have to go as much as 2k rpm to get it goin after no cats. I can tell you there's no way I'd get a good holeshot at 850rpm as my car sits now. Revv it up a bit - you'll come off the line just as good as before, but you'll get to redline much quicker now that it's breathing.

I have this same problem after installing Kooks 1 7/8" LT's with no cats, but I did heads/cam at the same time, so I changed so much that I haven't been able to narrow it down.

If I let the clutch out in first at idle and go WOT, it bogs until maybe 1500-2000 RPM, then FLIES. If I let the clutch out at 1500 RPM, then I don't bog at all and can barely keep the tires on the ground. I have no codes, am sure I hooked up the O2's right, and have already been tuned on the Dyno. I guess it may be the no cats issue. I do like the power up top, but I need to get to the track and see what my 60' is after dropping the clutch around 2-3k.

Anyone else seen this with no cats?

It's a common thing. Every car of mine I've ever installed headers on lost alot, if not all the of low end torque when they were open headers. (I had to drive the cars to the shop to get the rest attached) My old GTP laid down 400-ish ft/lbs, but with open headers, it'd barely spin the tires with the stock converter.

Obviously, that's open headers, so it's an amplified version of what you're experiencing.

Just gotta come off the line a bit hotter.
