Default need help getting off both wiper arms

Are there any tricks to getting the wiper arms off the car? I saw some rust on the wiper bolts, but they came off pretty easy. Both old wiper arms are on really tight. I do not want to damage the motors or anything by pulling to hard...does anyone have any ideas? btw it is a 1998 C5.

Just grab the arms and try to rock them back and forth on the shaft with a little force. You won't break anything. They sit on a tapered and splined shaft, and once a little movement occurs between them, they literally jump off the shafts.

If you still can't budge them, you can rent a special wiper arm puller at Autozone or similar stores.

I removed mine to replace it. Each assembly is taper locked to the threaded post. You need one of these to remove it.

The two prongs go between the wiper arm and windshield with the wiper motor threaded post between the prongs. The threaded post of the tool pushed down on the threaded post of wiper motor. Easy and it takes about 5 seconds once you have the proper tool!

They should be about 10 bucks!

Reinstall it so that the taperlock is reengaged since the nut alone cant handle the torque from the motor and you wipers will eventually change positions especially if you are pushing something heavy off your windshield (like snow) although this is unlikely with your vette. Also, if you use the high speed setting for the wipers, this can cause it to move as well. The taper lock is there for a reason, not just to be a pain when you want the wiper assembly removed!

I had a bear of a time getting mine off last year to touch up the paint on the arm. With a little motion, side to side and up and down they came off pretty easy. I admit that the "puller" shown below might make the job easier you don't "need" it to get them off.

I found this thread during a search because I needed to remove my wiper arms. With my 2000 model, you simply reach a couple of inches in front of the bolt on the arm where it pivots, lightly push downward at this pivot point, and then lift the arm off. I saw the guy at the auto glass shop remove them - don't ask about why my car is there.
