Mine is a 2001 Convertible with 112,500 miles. I'm on my 3d set of tires. I used Continentals on my 1999 and got great service. My 2d set on this 2001 was also Continenals and I got 55,000 miles out of them. I put a new set on at 96,500 miles. Tonight I found that the rear set is almost bald with only 16,000 miles on them. The front set is fine with lots of tread left. I suspect my shocks (they are original) are gone. What do you say.
Thanks.

Gem, you have any doubt that your stock shocks are still good after 112,000 mi? I would completely assume that they're junk after that many miles...regardless of how nicely you've driven or how smooth the roads are.
Find some Z06 take off's or buy them new from Fred Beans and you'll be set....I just helped a friend install Z06 shocks in his 1997 Coupe and it really firmed up the ride and reduced wheel hop, body roll, and rattles...though the car still rides nicely. Or you can probably get a set of stock C5 shocks for next to nothing. The job is pretty easy to do as long as you ahve a 22mm socket for the lower bolt.

George...
Let me guess, your son/daughter/wife has recently shown an increased interest in driving the Corvette...??
Well tomorrow my mechanic puts it on the rack to find out what's going on. Have original shocks and never had a 4 wheel alignment. He'll be checking everyting in the rear. It's not a heavy foot and I'm the only driver. This is my 3d C5. I put 70,000 on a 1997, 80,000 on a 1999 and 112,500 on this one. Never had tires wear as rapidly as this. Even with the crappy run flats, I got over 40,000 miles. A rear tie rod was replaced at 91,000 miles and I wonder if it was installed right. I'll followup with a post as soon as we get an answer.
Thanks for all your suggestions.
Well, upon replacing the 2 rear tires, alignment all the rear components were checked. No problems were found. Interestingly, the struts/shocks were in good shape. That led me to contact the manufacturer, Continental. They allowed as how they sometimes have bad tires. The tires are going to be looked at by a local Continental dealer.
Thanks for all the replies. Sorry for all you lead foots who have to cough up the cost of a set of tires in 15K or 20K miles.
