I'm noticing that when the transmission is cold on the shift into second, it feels like things are still spinning in the tranny, like the teeth on the synchro are not meshing when I pull it into second. Not grinding yet but something I'm definately noticing out of the normal. From my ASE training I seem to remember that problems shifting with one gear are usually synchro related.... so ..... I wonder how many others have had this problem at a lowly 57k miles....
Maybe it's time to upgrade to a Z06 transmission!
Also, I was thinking of buying some shorty headers..... Are they worth the money (used)?!?
Switch out the tranny fluid in your current tranny. It is filled with Dextron automatic transmission fluid. Upgrade it to Redline D4 ATF or another synthetic from Royal Purple or Amsoil. You will be amazed at how mutch better it shifts.
The T-56 has three synchros for 1st and 2nd gear. I have never really liked the way the transmission felt shifting in and out 1st or 2nd.
If it was bad you would hear it grind and it would be difficult to get into gear.
Also check the fluid level. Either too high or too low a level would give you shift trouble.
I had some trouble shifting into 1st and found the level to be too high. Once I drained it to the proper level, all is good.
hey thanks for the advice!! Ok, so I'll skip those shorty headers.... They just look cool I guess. But as for the synthetic trans fluid.... I know it would probably work better, but haven't some people had seal failure due to using Synthetic instead of regular ATF? I really would love to try it but I'm nervous..... Thanks for your help!!
My car has over 120K miles on it. It has had Redline D4 ATF in it since about 35K. No problem at all. Since your down there might as well change the gear oil in the Differential as well. Use the Redline stuff that already has the limited slip friction modifier in it. No problem with my differential either.

Been using synthetic tranny fluid in mine for four years now without issue. Changed over at the 800 mile mark. Been using this on the track since 2004: AMSOIL ATF
