Default 97-fuel pump location

my car has been hard to start unless its the 2nd or 3rd attempt then if fires right up and runs perfect..i have changed the fuel pressure regulator and that hasnt fixed it..i check fuel pressure and it falls off quickly
thought i would change fuel pump but not sure which tank its in..i assume its the right side cause the left is riveted in and the right has bolts..am i right?? should i replace the pump or just clean the filter screeen....ps..changed fuel filter also thanks

If it is just hard to start it is probably NOT the fuel pump. Usually GM pumps just quit all together and don't work again. Also BOTH tanks have a sender and pump.

It DOES sound like a fuel issue, but tracking it down might suck. One of my techs here said to check fuel pressure first. If you need to replace the pump that supplies the motor it is in the LEFT HAND (driver side) tank. The other tank has more of a siphon pump to equal out the two tanks. Since you tried the filter and regulator I would check pressure and go from there.

97 runs a return line.block off the return side at the rail,if you still loose pressure, most likely you have a bad check valve in the fuel pump.
