got mine at corvettes of houston. i think it was about $50 or so. if your wheel locks it doesn't matter how much it was if you don't got it! don't pay to have it put in , it is EASY to install, save your $ for some go fast parts
Save your money and just take it to the dealer for the 04006C recall procedure that was issued 02/08/06.
They will now remove the column lock plate in 6-speeds and automatics for US cars at no cost to you. No more chance of column lock
I've been reading on here that the CLB should be a no-brainer. If there is this recall that removes the locking plate, then what is the point of buying the CLB when you can get the situation fixed for free? I have a 00 MN6 and do not need to be stranded. Any other opinions?

Having the dealer mess up your car.
I believe that the latest recall still cuts the fuel if it detects that the lock has not retracted. I may be mistaken...there are too many versions to keep up with.
Some of us got the letter stating that they would only perform the latest recall if we actually experienced a failure. If I want if fixed now, I have to do it myself (CLB).

the dealer fix does nothing. just makes you bring the carback over and over again. CLB is a less than 30min install,no codes, no fuel cut off no locking column!
with the dealer fix,you get DIC errors, fuel cut off, columns that still lock, just hell.
If you want to listen to those who have no idea what is involved in the 0400C recall procedure but choose to tell people it won't work anyway then knock yourself out
Simply put, the 0400C procedure is the same procedure that GM has always done for all US A4's. Now they are doing it for US 6-speeds. The result is no column lock, no fuel cutoff, no messages, no issues period. Just ask any A4 owner
This will be the best $50 you ever spend on your Vette and it is a pretty easy install. I see where most folks did it in 30 minutes or less. I am pretty slow and carefull (probably too carefull) and it took me a little over an hour. I came into the house three times and double checked the website instructions with pics.
What a great feeling when the job is complete and you never have to hear the lock motor again.

The main problem with going to the dealer is if you have any computer tuning, you can kiss it goodby. I cant tell you how many times we have had to rewrite a program for a CLB "fix".

I agree with you that the 4006C procedure is not well understood by most, but I want to clarify some points:
- 2001+ A4s have no Column Lock motor, and most of the pre-2001 A4s had the CL disabled via prior recalls.
- 4006C does not reprogram the BCM. Prior recalls for the MN6 had a BCM program to tighten a corner condition around cutting fuel when the CL was locked, but the CL was not disabled.
- 4006C removed the locking plate, but the CL remains in the steering column and is powered through the Harness K. Even though the CL cannot lock the wheel, it does operate.
- With 4006C, the BCM still reads the CL state and will cut fuel if it thinks the CL is locked even though it cannot lock the wheel. According to several forum members, a faulty harness or even the CL actuator itself can still prevent the car from being driven.
