Default Headlight Motor

One headlight makes a grinding noise for about 15 seconds after its lowered. Is this a bad gear or what. If so, how hard is it to fix?

Yes, this a bad gear. It is not too hard to replace although when mine went bad in 1 motor, I R&R'd the gear twice, and in both instances the gear went bad again rather quickly. The housing where the gear is must be BROKEN open and then re-glued ir appoxied after the gear has been replaced. After the work and short life of the 2 replacements, I then just bought a whole new motor assembly.

Use rodney's brass gear upgrade. Look in sticky'e in general.

Use rodney's brass gears, btw I believe only '00-'04 need to be broke open. My '97 had a screw on cover and i belive '98 and '99 are the same. I replaced mine and a year later I haven't had another problem.

I disassembled mine and flipped the gear over (only half of the gear is used). That was almost three years ago. Still good & a free fix.
