I just seen a picture of a Cadillac EVOQ - their performance roadster which I understand is a total rip of the Corvette -- i think this sucks. What does everyone else think?? http://www.popularmechanics.com/cgi-bin/spy.pl?cat=det
If you look closely at that car, you will notice it is running EVOK wheels.
Caddy is using C5 bodies on their test mules to keep things under wraps.
Also..read the subtitles!!
Sure, it looks like a Corvette. But those wheels are a sure giveaway that it's not an example of America's sports car. What you are looking at really is the mule for a 2002 Evoq, Cadillac's sport roadster.
GM's timeing coulden't have been worse to bring this car out. With the economy down it's going to end up failing and the extra capacity at the plant will not help the vette's value when it does. A supercharged northstar will be cool if the car stays on the market long enough to get it. Ric
Caddy's aren't my cup of tea, although if they put an LS1 in a catera, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I'm not fond of what I've seen of the Evoq or whatever they call it, too angular, and I'd be willing to bet that the traditional Cadillac buyer won't be terribly excited about it either. And it'll be priced way out of the range of the "transformer" generation that likes this look. I guess it's a "move up" car from the Aztek..
But will it hurt the vette? I doubt it. I'd bet most of the traditional vette enthusiasts, given the choice will stay with the vette. If anything, it should help the vette, as I wonder if the corporate bean counters would have allowed a new generation as fast as it appears, if at all. I would bet they are splitting common development costs among the two divisions, thus maybe making the C6 seem to cost less to bring to market which I'm sure the bean counters would love.
To me, then, it's a "win-win" situation for the vette. And if GM wants to use some smoke and mirrors to continue the heritage of the corvette, I'm all for it..
All I ask of the Evoq is that it does justice to the Alante` Of course a MANUAL would be nice too, but for its age, the Alante` was amazing, I was fortunate enough to drive one of the Indy 500 pace cars while I was living down in Indy in.... was it 92? Awesome machine.... not a corvette but still awesome none the less.
IMHO, The Denali looks a lot better than the boxy Escalade. I guess Ford has the same problem with the Navigator and Expedition, high priced competition.
What is this talk of the EVOQ having a 4.8 Northstar? I thought that it was going to share engines with the C6? What if they stick a 4.8 in the C6? That would suck...
