Default forged 347... or 402?? confused!!

blew up the motor few weeks ago. i need to decide on a motor within the next few days! im at a complete loss! trying to get out of the as "budget friendly" as possible!!

i was set on a forged 347 but now im thinking 402.

my goal... high compression motor, would like to be around 500rwhp N/A. looking to do a big head/cam setup then add 200 shot.

my question is... will the 347 be all i need? will it hold the 200 shot? i dont know if i can justify the price of the 402 over the $2700 price tag on the 347.

somebody help!! any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Default 347-402

No substitute for cubic inches! I had a SDPC 402 installed with big cam AFR 225 and @ 11.1 CR that I am very happy with. I haven't had it dyno tuned yet but I am confident it has well over 500 rwhp. My old motor made 405 at the wheels and it isn't even close to what this one feels like.

I know it is cheap horsepower but Nitros just scares me. Things go wrong fast if you don't have it set up exactly right and motors ain't cheap!

It is hard to get to torque curves like these in a 347.

Though my engine is still good I have been thinking what I would change to if it blows. I have thrown around the same ideas you had and then I decided on a 383. I hear that you can get some really good power out of the 383 and it is lighter than the 402.

Just something else to add to the confusion

Let's really add to the confusion. It looks like I'll be going with the 414CI using the L92 block. Early reports are very good.

For NA I'd probably do the 402. For boost I like the 346's or 388's (big bucks). Also the cost is more than $2,700 to do it right.

If I was to build a motor for NOS I would go with the larger cubes to have more hp/tq on tap for the majority of the driving you will be doing, not like those of us with boost where it is always just a little push of the throttle away

yeah thats what im leaning towards. i figure if i spent the extra money now on the bigger motor, i would probably use the nitrous a lot less, and probably only a 100 shot rather than 200. driving around N/A with 500+rwhp isnt all that bad i guess!

ECS is building a NA 402 now. I think last Dyno with open headers it was 580 or so. that is some nice power. Of course when they put back on the headers and cat-back it will be down, but still that is sweet for a NA car.
