Have you guys ever heard of a flex fuel Corvette? I'm looking at 2001 6spd car that claims it's flex. Did GM make any Vette's this way is or this an error I'm reading (haven't been able to ask the question yet)? Here's the VIN #1G1YY22G815102628 is someone knows how to decipher it. Would a Carfax tell us this information?
Feedback appreciated! Is it so or ?
I would think that somebody could have modded the specific engine to run on E85, but "Flex-fuel" sounds too generic to make any sense.
I wonder if they meant that it will run on unleaded regular as opposed to premium fuel??
I don't believe that GM produced any Corvette of any year for sale to the public that was represented as flex-fuel. Sounds like if it's being advertised as a factory option.
I'm inclined to be on the same page as you guys. I feel it may have been a keying error, but I'll let you know once I spoken to them.
What is the E85 BTW?
Can anyone run the VIN?
That's great you guys. After following the link I see that they are referring to E85 vehicles. This does not apply to the Corvette according to the list.
As stated above flex fuel is 85% ethenhol, 15 % gasoline. They've been selling 10% ethanhol, 90% gasoline all over the midwest for years, and it can be used in all cars. Possibly this is what he is talking about.
The last pick-up I had (Ford) was a flex fuel vehicle and it was allover the owners manual and everywhere else. I also had extra problems getting parts when they looked up the ser # because they always had to be the parts for the flex fuel vehicle.
Just today I saw an interview of a CEO of an ethanol producing company and the question was asked about converting a gas car to flex fuel. The answer was that there was no one producing conversion kits because it was not cost effective to do so. You could trade for a flex vehicle for less than the cost of a conversion.
You should be able to tell from the window sticker if it is available. My 2003 Tahoe is a Flex Fuel (E85) vehicle. The VIN info from the E85 web site doesn't quite agree with the letters in the Tahoe's VIN but the window sticker from GM has "Flexible Fuel * " printed in big bold letters in the top of the fuel economy section. At the bottom of the fuel economy section it says " * This vehicle operates on Regular Gasoline and Ethanol (E85)". I purchased the Tahoe the last day of 2002 and all the Tahoes the dealer had at his lot or could access at tens of dealers in several states were all Flex Fuel vehicles.
