Default Column Lock & my new security system

hoping someone can comment on the following :

I just had a new security system installed last week - one of the add'l features of this system is a "remote start" capability. The new system would obviously mean the factory security system was disabled, and I noteced that the column doesn't lock now when the car is turned off. Everything was working fine until last nite when the "service column lock" msg came on. I had a problem with this once last year, but "rebooted" the car's computer and never saw it again until yesterday.
The car seems to run fine and I can drive it. But even if I use re-set to clear the msg, the message comes on every time I turn off and re-start the car...

Question is this - would the new security system mean that the column bypass is automatically disabled by the installer for the new system? (I'm waiting for a call back from the installer) - or could the remote start be a culprit in causing this problem? (the "service" msg came on after the last remote start)

I like the new security system as it is more full featured, but I'm now wondering if this is going to be more of a hassle than I bargained for???

thanks for any insight...

It sounds like your column lock is locked in the open position....better that locked. I would hurry out and get the CLB. Don't chance it, it's not worth the gamble...... ;)

hmmmm - didn't know it could lock in an open position! I really thought the remote start or the new security system caused it to malfunction...
Thanks for the reply!

The column lock can fail in the open position. Usually pulling BCM fuse #25 in the passenger footwell will clear it.

But, the question is did it fail on it's own or did your new alarm system have something to do with it?

from what i'm reading it seems like the security system has nothing to do with it... but I'd like to hear it from someone else who's had this happen too...
I thought maybe it was the remote start that caused the problem -
