I have a 2004 z16 thats starts when it feels like it. Put the key in ,seat adjusts, turn the key to on ,all gauges reset as usual ,turn to start and nothing happens. Lights seem bright, horn blows. Can anyone tell what is going on here.

Thank You Taznr

That's a strange one. Check the battery. When they are getting weak, about to die, it can cause some very strange behavior.

Not sure if this will apply to you since your Vette is not that old. I have a 2001 and was experiencing your problem about a year ago. After checking battery, alternator, ignition switch, and other related electrical components, the dealership determined the resistor on my key was going bad. They cut me a new key and I haven't had the problem since.

If you have the oem battery in the car, it might be time for a new one. I just got my '04 Z16 and the first thing I did was replace the oem battery with an OPTIMA. Where I am, it's 110+ in the summer and will be 30- in the winter. The oem battery would be two years old in November, but the car sits all week waiting for the weekend to get out. I also use a BATTERY TENDER on it during the week.

i have no idea if this could be the problem but at least it is one more idea to check. it could have something to do with the clutch, i know the 6 speeds will not start if the clutch is not in so it could be a bad switch or relay with that system, just a dif. angle to check out if it is not the battery. also check the connections on your starter. could be a bad ground.

I will give you a few more details. This has done this before, went out to eat with girlfriend, after dinner car did this scenario, girlfriend said you probably didnt put the clutch in the whole way the first time but I thought I did but give her some credit. Car works ok for a few months, then does it again, I think the same. Yesterday we were going to go out to eat in it, I was going to let her drive, car would not start no way, push clutch thru the floor,ha ha. She says piece of junk sell it. Today I try to move the car, in the way, it starts right up, I try both keys, they both work. Ground next to battery seemed like it could have been tighter but I tightened that yesterday when it wouldnt start.

Thanks for all your thoughts its amusing and very interesting to hear them. I would hate to have to take this car to the dealer and let them put their greasy little mitts on it. Thanks again Paul
