Default Help cam install question

Im doing a cam head install and when I put the new cam in ir seems to have a little play in it front to back. I would have thought it should have no movement. Since this is my first install on a LS1 should there be any or does the timing chain gear and retention plate stop that. Is there something I should look for to make sure its in right or is it pretty plain except the timing marks? I still have it apart till I make 100% sure its right.

Yes, the retention plate & gear hold the cam in place. Use locktite
on the timing gear bolts so they don't work loose.

If you are changing the oil pump too, don't forget the little o-ring on the pick up tube. It is easy to lose, crimp and install wrong and you will have zero oil pressure.
