Default Harmonic Balancer Question

Ok new to the C5/LS1. Im putting some upgrades on the FRC and took the old balancer off. when I pulled the underdrive out of the box it has a key way cut into it. I felt around the crank and didnt find a key. Looked at the old balancer and there isnt one. So is there one? Does it just press fit on and hope it stays in place?

There is a key slot, but is closer to the block. It is used for the lower sproket on the timing chain setup. You should be fine just installing it to the right specs. Someone else should chime in, but My pulley (aftermarket) did not have a key slot if I remember correctly.

Who made your pulley? My ASP did not have a key slot in it. I think someone gave you the wrong balancer. I would not use it.

You are fine... Powerbond harmonic balancers do have a key slot but since all stock LSx cranks do not use a key to locate the balancer, it's a moot point.

Follow the GM specs for bolt torques, etc.

...and of course make sure you are using a new crank bolt. Also, if you plan on going FI later, it would be a good idea to key your crank now.

This isnt going on so easy. I rented a HB installer from autozone but the threads are too deep in the shaft for it. Is there another way to get this on or is there a different tool needed?

OK its on just take a little I found . The heads come off 10x easier then that I would rather just pull the motor . Thanks for all the replys!
