okay, heres the deal. i have a 98 sebring silver c5. today, someone smacked into my drivers mirror and knocked the inner retaining ring off of the base post that holds the top portion to the base. i cant compress the tension spring enough to put the assembly back together so i need another one. i can get one off of a 2003 quicksilver colored vette, but i dont know if those two colors are actually different or if they just changed the name.
help
cool, no worries though. i figured out how to fix my mirror assembly. i drilled a couple of holes through the base and housing and used some gm assembly screws to hold the housing to the base. not quite factory, but it saves me a butt load of dough!! the only drawback is that the mirror housing doesnt fold in now. but i never folded it in anyhow. thank you guys.

But now when someone hits the mirror hard enough, the door skin will come off with the mirror. That is why the fold in.
crap. thanks for ruining my day!! j/k i will be getting another mirror as soon as i can find one, i just wont be getting a new one. if someone damages the door, i'll just turn in a comp claim on the insurance.

Do a search here. There is a guy that fixes the mirrors so they still fold and they use a better piece of metal. When GM made our mirror they used soft metal for the stops. The stops wear out and the mirror just flaps in the wind.
Someone will chime in with the guys name. But, try a search.
