I can't speak from experience as I change by the DIC pretty much at 20%....that being said I am sure you could probably go longer regardless (with Mobil1 or RP or Amsoil) but why be a cheap azz considering the cost of DIY oil changes compared with the cost of not doing them in the long run. Maybe someone will chime in and say they have run the car farther with RP and will say the DIC backs up there findings I don't know....not bashing JMO.....like I said no direct experience
The reason I ask is not based on saving money by running longer between oil changes, but I have heard some say that the synthetics work better as the oil gets more mileage. Just wondering what others are doing in this area and if 5000 miles is too soon to change.
yeah I got that from your post....I personally have never seen a 5k oil change per the DIC...I have no idea how you would drive the car to get that out of it per the DIC. This has been beat to death around here with the whole engineering that went into the oil life monitoring system etc. I personally believe you could go 5k or 7500 with Mobil1 RP or Amsoil with no issues....many of the new cars say 7500 between changes except in extreme conditions etc. There have been a few folks here who paid for oil analysis and posted results...I honestly couldn't tell you a thing about them but I bet if you did a search in the archives you could find them....of course your driving habits and their may vary greatly so I don;t know how much that would help you get what you are looking for
I can't see how going with more miles on your oil, syn or not, can be good. The longer it goes, the dirtier it gets, which I feel will cause wear. I am one of the nuts that changes my oil every 2000 miles or so. My car is a daily driver and gets about 250 miles a week!
I look at it this way, changing your oil sooner can only help avoid engine wear, and going longer between changes can't help at all and possibly hurt things. My oil is dirty by 2000 miles, so out it goes. I know that there are some of you guys that will say I am crazy for doing this, but it's my ride!
