Default Questions on grease inside rear wheels

Hi

We are new members which have recently purchased 2001 convert with 15k. In checking it over in side and out, it looked perfect, one owner (original owner traded for a new XLR), all options etc. My question is that I noticed what looks like a thin line of grease on the inside on both rear wheels after the second long drive (250mi) after cleaning. It hasn't appear to come back since cleaning again yet but it is a concern. Any info is much appreciated. thanks

Did it rain? or get damp?
the rotors some times throw a line of gunk ( for want of a better word) from the inner fins when they are a bit rusty & wet or damp, the other thing would be a cut rear boot but that is usually quite messy.

After driving in the rain, the wheels get a perfect circle of dirt that looks like rust. It washes right off.

If it's a dark gray grease (moly b) you have some torn CV boots.

Been there - did that @ 100 miles on the new Vert!!!

No Problem

Brake dust, humidity and centrifugal force. Just look at it this way, itgives you something to do and be proud of after you drive.

Unfortunately it looks green/gray grease (CV boot) similar to whats used front ends although it strange that it would inside both rear wheels, a lesser amount on LR wheel. Thanks for the help, I'll look at the boots closer.
