Forget what the owners' manual says. What's you opnion on the A4 tranny fluid and differiential (sp?) fluid life. My C5 has 25K on it and the dealer says it's time to change the fluid (never been done before.) Thanks.
Unless you've been racing the car, I'd follow the schedule in the manual. Remember that most dealers want to get a few easy bucks by providing unnecessary maintenance work. The dealer I bought my car from gave me a brochure listing all sorts of unscheduled maintenance to bring the car in for, including tire rotation! (To be fair, it wasn't a Corvette-specific brochure.)
The GM stated service interval in the manual is 100,000; If I were using it harder I'd do it every 15,000. I'm gonna do mine at 50K, which within the next month or so for me; I'll post the condition of the old fluid.
Hi,
The C4 had a 15K trans fluid change as a recomendation.
On my C5, I speeded this schedule up, but my .02 is change every 15K as a fellow co-member above also wrote.
Here is some other data:
1 - there are two types of transmission filter...deep pan and short pan. Be aware.
2 - There is a replacement O-ring in the filter kit. A proper tool for the removal of the old one makes life easy. See the service manual.
Also, I first changed my filter and oil at 9K and the oil was brown. Tooks 5 quarts.
Next change, was at 20K and I had wrong filter. Pan gasket was reused. Some metal shavings and brown oil noted.
Last change was at 22K (had correct filter), and oil looked red and good. However, I noted brown/ black clutch disk residue after this short time.
Always shifts/feels better after an oil change by the way.
Around my area the dealer charges around $100. to do a trans oil flush. You should go for it and then go onto a 15K schedule. Again my 02.
