So as my car sits I can hear a whine which seems to come from behind or under the driver seat. I've searched the forum and yes there is plenty of stuff about whining...
mine seems DIFFERENT because when i signal or something else electrical comes on the whining dies down for a second. Any ideas? Seemed to start today... which is day three of ever owning my car a 1998 with 49000 miles.
My '99 had a problem with the little pumps that inflate the air bladders in the seat. One got stuck on and you could hear a little humming or whining noise from under the seat when the car wasn't running. I had the dealer fix it (replaced pump) since it was still under warranty then. The pump is under the seat.
The noise you described sounds like the fuel pump. It located behind the drivers seat. Occasionally when its running you will hear the frequency change with the turn signal on, or other electrical devices turning on and off. Have your dealer run a maintenace history on the car to see if the pump was ever replaced. The 97-98's had noisy pumps installed, if I recall there was a TSB published on this. Many have been replaced, mine included.
