I was working under my car last night and when I stood up I hit my back on the drivers side mirror. It folded in but when I went to straighten it it was completely loose. The wires are the only thing holding it on. I move the mirror itself around and there is a big spring with a clip. How do I take apart the mirror to reattach it?? there are two small torqx screws but they didn't do anything. Please help!!
Brandt,
Not an uncommon problem. While the mirror housing can fold, it's not very forgiving. The mechanism is a b*tch to fix, too. There is a fellow out there who fixes this assembly for a very reasonable price. I don't have his name, but it has been mentioned here on the forum several times. Try a search or perhaps someone will chime in who has his contact #. Good luck.
A different repair that I've done in the past with pretty good results is to JB Weld the two parts of the metal stud/cam plates together. The JB Weld provides a pretty good grip, but will release if the mirror is whacked pretty hard (i.e. saves your mirror).
At the least, it'll keep you on the road until you can get it fixed more correctly.
