My son drives our 2000 Black FRC and has a hurricane induction system and B&B exhaust. It sounds really nice and is very loud and he loves it....personally a bit loud for me.
He is looking for an x pipe and headers now, but doesnt know which ones he should get in order to get the best performance while maintaining or increasing the loud sound. He would also like to keep his car legal, so i dont think long tube headers would work out. Unless there are long tube headers that would fit what he wants...
And you thought the B&B's were loud with stock manifolds?!
No problem is this car of "yours" is becoming his. But, if you're going to be driving it around after the header install, you're in for some noise.
Many aftermarket set-ups sound good with an otherwise stock exhaust system.
Once you add headers to the mix, those "slightly" loud aftermarket systems become greatly magnified.
His best bet is to check out someone else's set-up with headers and aftermarket cat-back to see if its going to be too loud.
I made this same mistake and it would've cost me $900 had I not traded my old cat back system for a quieter one.

Would the X-Pipe quiet it down at all? Which headers would you recomend?

I don't think an X pipe will make any difference at all in terms of noise, although they claim to stop the popping noise from decelartion.
The X pipe is designed primarily to improve flow.
Because you're in Cali., my experience won't help you out. I would recommend long tubes from Kooks, TPIS, or LG. But, they may not pass emissions.
I'd call A&A Corvette, they are a sponsor here on the Forum and have a great reputation. http://www.aandacorvette.com/
They would be a great source for your needs.
