Default fast with stock converter

Has anyone gone fast with bolt on's and the stock converter? I've done searches and I'm seeing plenty of people with 400 at the wheels but I'm not seeing many people with converters. Is it possible to go low 12's-high 11's with the normal bolt-on's and no converter? With stock 3.15 gears in case you guys are wondering.

best I could do with 3.42 and stock TC was 12.9

Mods are:
3.42 rear gears (stock TC and factory tires)
Z06 titanuims
K&N drop-in OEM-type filter
Predator tune
gutted pre-cats

I have LG SS headers and no cats with a blackwing air filter. I also have the stock 3.15 gear. My best at Bristol is a 13.0@108mph.

Your are not going to find anyone running very low 12s to high 11s NA with the stock converter. Even if you had H/C it would be difficult. To run that fast with the stock T/C you would need NOS or a S/C. The stock T/C is for economy not high performance.

Mitch, that's what I thought. I was hoping it was possible because I have no idea how to change the converter in a c5. I'm gonna order one today any suggestions? I'm thinking the yank ss3200

I'm in the same decision process now. Ordered 3.90's and need to order the converter. I just drove a 400hp C6 with 3.73 and a Vigilante 3200 and liked the combo. Just know if feels a little slushy at low rpm's and it will take more throttle to get acceleration at low speeds. But when you stand on it, wow! Still, for a stock car it might make more sense to go 2800 which will be a good bit tighter. Tough decision but I'm leaning towards the 3200.

Well, I'm pretty much set on sticking with the 3.15's. The vette isn't that heavy and it shouldn't take too much gear to get it going. Now if I had the 2.73's I would change them, but I don't see any performance per dollar value switching to 3.42's and 3.90's would be out of the question for me. I'm waiting for Yank to get back to me on the SY4000. The guy that recommended the converter to me went 11.60 in a camaro with full bolt ons.

With the converter install be so "involved" I want to make sure I put the right converter in the first time.

With 3:15s I would go at least with a 3200, and don't forget the tranny cooler.

yep; 1/4 mile times are greatly improved with a higher stall TC.

That first 60 feet means ana helluva lot at the end of the trap.

I agree on the "first time" thing. The reason I'm doing gears and converter at the same time is that my installer charges the same to do both at the same time as he does just the converter.

The SS3200 is an excellent choice if you plan to keep your 3.15 gears.
However if you think you might want to do H/C go with the SS3600 and at least 3.42 gears.

I would not want the SY4000, it has a low STR and would tend to be loose with 3.15 or 3.42 gears. If you want a 4000 stall go with the
SS4000 and 3.73 gears.
