A couple of months ago, my driver's side window started having problems. The window would roll down no problem, but when i tried to roll it up, it would get stuck at the half-way point and wouldn't go up unless i physically 'tugged' up on it while pressing on the 'window up' button. I opened up the door and loosened up the things holding the window just a little (sorry, i don't know exactly what they're called). That fixed the problem for a couple weeks, and then it came back. Since then, it has gradually gotten worse, to the point where now i have to completely pull the window up with my hand.
So i guess i have two questions:
1.) Do you think it's the window motor or something else?
2.) Is there a cheaper place to get them than a chevrolet dealership, because they quoted me 327.87 for the window motor + actuator.
If the cable system does not look twisted or damaged, then the problem is most likely in the motor. You might be able to clean the motor and get it to work a while longer.
A friend of mine has bought two complete window actuator assemblies on e-bay from a guy that was removing the glass to build a race car and they work fine. Maybe you can find a good, used actuator assembly if you shop around.
your best bet is to pull the door panel and look at the track assembly for visible signs of binding or lack of lubrication. If all looks well you will need to replace the window regulator assembly (motor and track come as one piece).
